Natural Park of Sierra Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama. Located at 4.5 km. of the urban helmet.
This place that is located in the municipality of Alcaucín, is located on the slope of Sierra Tejeda, is a must in some of the walking routes that go to the peak of Maroma. It is a camping area, the small waterfalls that form in the first meters of the channel of this stream and the thick vegetation that surrounds it are some of the natural attractions of this corner. Note the impressive gorge that opens this stream before taking its waters to the nearby reservoir of La Viñuela, to contemplate it there is a viewpoint enabled by the road. From the Mirador de Miguel Álvarez you can contemplate the impressive gorges at whose feet the Arroyo del Alcázar opens.
Relatively important vegetation cover, it constitutes an enclave of extraordinary scenic beauty. It harbors a large part of the endemisms linked to the oromediterranean floor and the more or less dense wooded formations, formed by a variable combination of species of the Pinus, Quercus and Juniperus genera, as well as different serial bushes.
The golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) maintains a stable population. The hunting territory includes a large area of mountainous terrain with forest type vegetation, although there are numerous appointments of distant displacements. Data on food are scarce, highlighting the importance of the rabbit as a basic piece. Occasionally catches of goats of domestic goats, as well as wild goats occur. Presence of well-preserved nesting populations of the goshawk (Accipiter gentilis), the golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), the peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus) and the eagle owl (Bubo bubo). The population of the mountains is located in the areas of steepest relief, offering good shelters and responding to the ecological requirements of the species.
